Title: | Performant analytical techniques for quality control characterization (II) | Authors: | Dinu, Cristina Niculae, Andrei Iancu, Vasile Niculescu, Marcela Vasile, Gabriela |
Keywords: | Arsenic;Selenium;Antimony;Mercury;Pharmaceutical compounds;VOCs;Water; Methods | Issue Date: | 2013 | Publisher: | Romanian Water Association | Abstract: | In the paper are presented some methods used for characterization of water quality, in terms of organic pollutants and volatile metallic elements. The working conditions for the quantification of toxic As, Se, Sb, Hg from drinking water using the modern technique based on flow injection – hydride generation combined with inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (FIAS- ICP-EOS) are shown. Determinations of several pharmaceutical compounds (analgesic, anti- inflammatory, anti-epileptic and stimulant classes) from wastewater (influents / effluents of Wastewater Treatment Plants) were performed by high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection (HPLC). To analyze volatile organic compounds, two methods were developed using GC- MS equipment - a screening method to identify the sample compounds with the MS in full scan mode and a quantitative method with the MS in SIM mode, using specific ion for each compound. The paper contains the characteristic parameters of the methods, such as: detection limit, quantification limit, precision, recovery which were evaluated with Certified Reference Materials / Reference Materials. |
