Abstract:
Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation are increasingly important in the design of different installations and equipments. Using these methods, the investors will save both funds and time. Besides engineering calculations, numerical simulations represent an important and absolutely necessary activity. In the present study is proposed a model for the oxygen concentration profiles in a mobile bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) using the dispersion equation. The purpose of the study is to find the optimum dimension and position of the aeration pipes for maintaining the oxygen concentration in the limits indicated in the literature. Mathematical modeling of dissolved oxygen concentration allows identifying the zones in bioreactor with oxygen concentration below the limits and choosing the appropriate dimension and position for aeration pipe which leads to a well operated tank. The simulations have been realized using FlexPDE5 program and the general equation of dispersion (simplified form) has been utilized.
